I'm a long time vegetarian living in semi-rural Louisiana. I'm VERY happily married to this guy:
who is a giant dork just like me (as you can see from his gang-sign-throwing at the Amy Grant star...). We have three crazy-cute rescued doggies named Ripley (15 lb. cuddler, peacemaker, and grouchy middle aged man):
Dexter (9 lb. alpha dog, snuggle-master, and cowardly-growler):
and Gracie (70 lb bed-usurper, plant digger, and buzzsaw-snorer):
We just bought our first home in 2009, and that means I finally have a big kitchen with plenty of room for gadgets and gizmos. More importantly, I finally have a dishwasher, which means I cook almost every night! ;)
Most of my time is taken up with my job (I'm a college professor), but in my spare time I'm usually cooking, playing video games, watching TV, or reading (mostly fantasy/scifi/horror/graphic novels).
I decided to start this blog because I come up with some pretty darn tasty recipes and thought they might be useful to other people. I tend to cook "clean," which to me means simple ingredients and a simple process. Every once in a while I make something complex, terribly bad for me, or with overprocessed ingredients. However, most of the time my recipes are quick, easy to make, and fairly healthy. Also, I try to write these recipes so that you don't need many special ingredients (like nutritional yeast or brown rice syrup, for example). I may have a recipe every once in a while that includes wacky vegetarian ingredients, but for the most part it's stuff you can get at your local grocery store. Finally, I try to make each of these recipes so that they appeal to vegetarians and meat eaters alike. I've been vegetarian for so long that my tastes have changed from what they used to be; however, I try to make things that echo the kinds of flavors that meat eaters can appreciate.
If you have a cooking or vegetarian related blog or recipe you'd like to share, go for it. If you email it to me, I can feature it as a post, or you can add it in the comments of one of my posts. You are welcome to use any of my recipes for non commercial purposes, or to post modified versions on your own blog or website. I just ask that if you do that, you give me credit for the original recipe. Please don't post my original recipes on your site or blog; instead review the recipe and post a link to It's Vegetarian! and let me know that you've linked to me. :)
Happy eating!
